Things That Make Me Happy ... and a Giveaway!

This weekend was amazing. The skies came out with their vibrant blue hue's and that sunshine really came through and warmed us up.
It was one of those perfect picturesque weekends that we always dream of when we are in the middle of winter.

We could open up the windows, not only in the house but in the car too.
The clouds were so cotton candy like.

I started out the weekend with my two nieces having a sleep over on Friday.
We started off with the bubbles, and really who doesn't love bubbles?
Kate mastered it ~
And there is no other time then to get some great photos then at bath time.
Alyssa is really quite the ham, and when I pull out the camera now, she knows the drill.
She says "cheese" with no guidance and smiles her best smile.

Other things making me happy are these divine pillows ..

Ive been eyeing them on different Etsy sites, and doing many Google searches on ruffle pillows and
after seeing repetitive pricing of over $50 per pillow,  I had given up.
However,  I saved some pictures of the ones I liked the most, and hit up my Mom.
I waited till the perfect moment, in which you never know which way it will go.
I closed my eyes real tight and asked and hoped for the best, and she said yes!
And so glad she did ~ aren't they pretty? And yes, she made these!

I also was happy receiving this picture in my email this weekend. I sent over one of my favorite snacks of Parmesan Goldfish to my bestie in France.  I had told her about them over and over again like she cared or something.  I asked her once if she had small crackers shaped like fish, that tasted like Parmesan.  She politely said No, but I'm sure she was thinking I was a little crazy.  She got them and they made her smile. And today is her Birthday - Happy Birthday my friend!

The weekend ended with a Sunday morning baseball game. There is no better way to start off a Sunday, I gotta say. Good Game Jake!

Lastly - all you are making me happy!  My site has grown from a little 5 followers to over
50!  I enjoy reading all your comments and am so excited each time I see a new follower pop up. In celebration of my 2 year blogiversary and all my new followers, I wanted to have a little giveaway.

Clean Eating

Yes, I've said it many times on this blog. I'm a vegetarian, but maybe a unique one. French fries made from potatoes, that's been OK in my book. Still from a vegetable right? Onion rings, same deal.  Ice Cream, that's been all good too. I don't really like milk so I don't drink it, but who could pass up ice cream? I'm not stupid. Oh and cheese, we've been BFF's for  a long time.

On a rainy afternoon last week when I could find nothing else to do,  I started to peruse Netflix. Being that I like documentaries and true stories, I came across this one.  Fat Sick & Nearly Dead is a true story of an Australian man named Joe Cross who made it his mission to travel across America, with his juicer in tow to regain his health.  The outcome was amazing. Simply taking fruits & vegetables and juicing them was curing diseases that people had and making people feel better.

And of course Netflix gave me 500 a few more recommendations for related documentaries, and I chose Forks over Knives. Basically along the same lines as the other one, in taking a plant based diet and regaining your health.

I thought a lot about this, because it was simply amazing the effects it was having on people. I'm already a couple steps ahead in that, I already don't eat meat. I cut the soda habit out last Christmas, and all else I would have to give up is the little dairy I eat consisting of cheese and ice cream. I wasn't quite sure if I could do the whole juicing thing, so the husband and I started this week with a plant based diet. OK, well kinda. I added in nuts and beans for some protein.   And he's still having chicken. But whatever, my diet is now 95% pure fruits & vegetables.

So, I am now at the end of day four with this. Nothing but fruits & vegetables. I've had 2 servings of beans and a few handfuls of nuts for snacks.  It's not bad.  I'm not craving anything. Ive been tired though. They did mention this could happen in the first few weeks.  This morning I was a little grumpy cause I was tired and didn't want to work.  But if I'm going to be honest, being tired in the morning and not wanting to go to work is not much different then any other day. Just Sayin'

Losing some weight would be great, however I'm in this to feel better. I work a lot and by the time I am done with my day, I'm tired and exhausted, just like the rest of you, right? I just want to feel better. I want my energy back.

So, now fries and onion rings no more. Cheese and Ice cream are no longer existent in my house.
My dinner more looks like this now.
Well, sorta. Add some lettuce in with that and some other veggies too.

I'm not sure if I could go with 100% of juicing though.
We went to the wholesale food market yesterday and stocked up.
It wasn't fun cleaning and cutting all this crap  these lovely fruits & veggies up.
However, I'm really hoping it makes a difference.  Really there is nothing to lose.

I recommend if you want to try and feel better, or even lose a little weight to check these videos out.
Even if you don't have weight to lose, and you already feel great or you want to continue to feel like crap, I still recommend you watch these. Its a little eye opening at the effects this food has on you.

If you take time to watch these, let me know what you think ...

Disclaimer: This does not mean I will never eat cotton candy, popcorn, gummy bears, french fries, cheese, ice cream, and all other things I love again.  I'm trying this out for a few weeks, to see how it goes.  Will I splurge and have some pizza on a Saturday night, maybe I will.  And when  if  I do, don't judge me. Maybe it will make me feel like crap, and I won't want it anymore, so I'm just putting it out there.

On a final note, I would like to thank my new followers for joining me. I really love all the comments too, and I reply to each one unless you don't have your email linked up with blogger, then I cannot respond. So please link it up -  I want to be able to respond!

Baseball & a Talent Show

It's been one of those gloomy weeks. The rain comes out to play off and on all day, the darker clouds dance around the sky, and I just want to hide. This crappy weather plays mind tricks with me, and makes me want to stay in bed all day and do nothing.

I did get out of bed each day, after sleeping through the alarm most days. I hesitantly rolled out of bed by 8 each morning and walked down the hall to work. I know, I know ... life is rough right? Working from home does have its benefits. And did I mention I get to choose my own hours? I could sleep in until noon if I wanted, but that would make for a very long work day.

This week was busy indeed. Baseball started off for two of my nephews. The rain stayed away for one game anyway, and it was nice to get some fresh air and to start the tradition of hanging out at the little league fields. Gage and Jake both had an awesome start to the new season!

Kate was there to cheer on her brothers.
This is the last year they will play together in little league. Brotherly Love.
Last night I went to the Middle School talent show. I wasn't sure quite what to expect, but it was great. And very entertaining. The gym was packed with friends and families alike, and each act got up there and performed without any hesitation. These kids have such courage, and I was impressed. Gage, my oldest nephew did his karate act to a Bon Jovi tune. I was a proud Auntie last night, he has this karate thing down. All his hard work and dedication really showed last night. Good Job Gage!
I later learned that each act had to audition and get chosen to participate in the talent show. Way to go Gage!
Supporting they are, Casey and Katie there to cheer on Gage.
So happy that tomorrow is Friday, and Friday the 13th too! And for some useless information, Did you know we have 3 Friday the 13th's this year? And they happen to be exactly 13 weeks apart from one another. Who says I don't educate, who says?
Have great weekend!

Happy Easter.

We celebrated by firing up the BBQ with all the family over. All together there is 15 of us. You never really know how the day will turn out when we all get together, and I'm going to go out on a limb here and say some get together's are simply better then others. Today was one of the better ones. It wasn't the most beautiful day out, but Oregon was good to us. The temperature was warmer and the rain stayed away.

And when I say we fired up the BBQ, I really mean my husband did. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I took credit for it, but let's just say it how it is. And I really gotta say, the happy face spatula makes those burgers taste a lil' better. (Ok, well I wouldn't know, cause I'm a vegetarian, but I think all the others would agree!!)

My Mom made cotton candy flavored cupcakes, and they were a hit!
The Easter Bunny made his arrival, and as the little's were huddled into the house with their Papa, he arrived. He hid those eggs well, but these kids managed to find them all. And I believe it was Casey who won this time around, with a whopping 48 eggs found!
Conversations were flowing, games were being played. And Grandma was trying to not get hit!
People were taking pictures of people taking pictures.
And Simply put, some people were just hanging out looking cute.
Little Miss Alyssa.
My sister, Lindsay.
Uncles and nephews reunited.
Uncles and nieces also had fun.
I guess with the six kids, there is always bound to be a little trouble. Feelings get hurt, but in the end its the kids that comfort each other. They are always there to mend the broken hearts they didn't mean to break. A little brotherly love goes a long way.
This little one has developed quite the personality. I couldn't resist taking this photo as she insisted on going in the house and knocking on the door to get my attention just outside the door.
We had a great day, and we can chalk up another family filled holiday.
I'm a little tired, I started the morning early to help make all these
festivities happen, and I'm going to end it on just one last note ..

Enjoy the little things, we can't take life so seriously!

Happy Easter!

Dreaming Of ...

If you haven't read part one, click here.
Naples, Florida to be exact. Its been a little over 6 months since we have been there, and I am eagerly awaiting our next trip back. Going through all 856 photos from our 10 day trip, it was hard to choose which ones to share.
Naples is a big enough city to find anything you will ever need, yet has the small town feel. It has rain & sun , it's a win, win!

We arrived on the beaches to be welcomed with signs of turtles nearby.

To actually seeing turtles. How neat is that?
The birds were abundant on those white sandy beaches.
Minding their own business, they were.
Makes me wonder, what a life they must live.
Sign me up, I'll comb those beaches and mind my own business.

Oh, yes I will.
Found this little creature crawl up upon
my towel. He was hiding under his shell
and I didn't even know a little thing lived
inside there. So cute.
These little lizards, aka Gecko's
were everywhere. The first few
days they had me jumping and shrieking,
but I got use to them, and they were
always there to greet me. In the pool,
on the handles of the car, on the sidewalks.
Let's just say you were never alone ....
Sunsets are to die for in Naples.
It makes us all come to a sudden stop.
Makes you realize in life that beauty can be
found in the simplest of things, and sometimes
its right there in front of you.
As our trip was coming to an end,
we decided to take the short 90
minute jaunt over to Miami, South Beach in fact.
Just jumping on the highway was a little eye-opener.
Come to find out, the highway is called Alligator Alley.
It wasn't a whole 10 minutes into the drive,
that I noticed the highway is fenced in, and we are
surrounded by wetlands and alligators. I can't see
them but from the signs I can see that they are there.
Then I see this sign ...
And within say 30 seconds from that exit,
I see a coiled up snake on
the highway being eaten by a big black bird.
I just wanted to go to Miami, people.
It gets better ...
Um, panthers? Did I read that right,
I nervously asked my husband? I instructed
him to just drive, drive fast, and please
to not get a flat tire, because um, we were surrounded
by alligators, panthers and snakes. There was
no way in hell, I was getting out of that car.

Pretty little Naples was all wrapped up in a bow,
and there was none of this going on there. But once we arrived to the other
side and reached Miami, I could breathe again.
Miami, South Beach.
Totally love these cute
lifeguard stations.
The water is greener, and colder.
But still beautiful it is.
We've been there, stuck our toes in the Atlantic.
Checked that off the bucket list.
I'm sure Miami has it's good features, but Naples it is for me.
And yes, we had to drive back the same way we came.
Never doing that again [period]!
